Forget about 5G, Super-Fast 6G is here already

Picture: Samsung – The technological development doesn’t wait for anyone, therefore Samsung’s already testing the 6G in its labs, although the fast flammable 5G speeds we have been promised are far from blanketing everywhere in the country. The test hardware provides bubbling speeds that… well, this section is to be figured later.

Another 140GHz transmitter and receiver test developed by UCSB Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Mark Rodwell in 2017 was successfully completed by a team of researchers from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Research and Samsung America. Although 5G wireless signals are available within a frequency range of up to 40 GHz, 6G in its terahertz spectrum would take up wireless spectrum after 100 GHz, resulting in significant performance improvements.

The 6G hardware has successfully transmitted data at 6.2 Gbps — about 775MB/s — across approximately 50 feet, operating with a frequency of140 GHz and a bandwidth of two GHz. Nokia and the Turkish Telecom established a 5G record speed record back in March that reaches 4.5 Gbps with specific hardware, which consumers probably won’t get hold of. Even the earliest implementations of 6G are already very promising over its predecessors, but their potential is far greater.

If the spectrum is less used, 6G will be able to reach transmission speeds of up to 1 Tbps or 125 gigaocytes of data flowing wirelessly into and out of a mobile device every second. For most people, what does that mean? It’s still visible. Welcomes and service providers have struggled to find ways of transmitting the 5G virtues to most consumers who are unable to differentiate their smartphone from a 4K feed when watching HD Netflix stream. For those living in isolated areas who fight to access the high-speed internet at home or in their companies, the advantages are more evident. With 5G coverage areas expanding, broadband fast Internet access could easily be provided without costly and comprehensive infrastructure upgrades.

When it finally rolls out, our smartphones can either project eight hologramms or streamer complex virtual reality worlds that will stream from a powerful remote server handling all the complex rendering in real time, there will certainly be similar applications for 6G. But even early adopters should not pay very much attention to the technology with the timeframe that sees 6G arriving in 2030 at the earliest stage.
