What is Finding Precision?
Precision Finding is an advanced technology in Apple’s AirTags that can determine the distance and direction to a lost airtag more accurately when it has reached its destination.
It lets users obtain more accurate guidance on their products as long as they have a model of iPhone 12 or iPhone 11.
Precision Finding provides instructions on how to guide users through their AirTag when they tap on the ‘Play Sound’ button in the AirTag Find My App. A large file with instructions such as “16ft to your right” and “0.1ft nearby” shows what direction it takes to go, which helps users locate their devices.
How does the finding of precision work?
Precision Finding is used in the AirTags and iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 models by the U1 chip. In order to locate and communicate precisely with other U1 devices, Apple’s U1 chip employs ultra-wide band technology to enable AirTags and iPhone 12/11 models to work in common.
The technology fuses input from your AirTag, ARKit, gyroscope and accelerometer, so you can use the combination of sound, haptics and visual feedback to get into your lost AirTag.
Precision finding can also work with the access features incorporated into iOS such as VoiceOver, for instance “AirTag’s 9 meters on your left,” leading users with blind or poor vision to an AirTag.
What is needed to find precision?
Precision finding requires that you have to work with iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max.
In countries and regions in which ultra wideband technology is limited, Precision Finding is also not available.
