It looks like your iPhone and in just a few days you get new tricks.
For developers to test, Apple has released several beta versions of iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5, which signal software updates to the general public. The company, however, held a Spring Loaded in April 2021 event without saying anything about when the updates are going to start. But it has released a few press releases for its new hardware products and, underneath, there is an indication of when the updates come.
For example, Apple quietly revealed in a press release for Apple’s Tile-style AirTag tracker that iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 is going to release “next week.” Beware that the AirTags will only work on devices running iOS 14.5 normally on sale on Friday, April 30, 2021. Apple said the phones were supported by iOS 14.5, in another press release for the new purple iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Mini. On 30 April, they too will go on sale.
Add it all, and Apple’s phone and tablet operating systems should receive the next software updates by the end of the month. They’re not huge updates, but there are plenty of welcomed enhancements including the ability to unlock your iPhone X or later using Face ID while wearing a face mask.
